My qualifications
Dr Linda Finlay, Phd, BA(Hons), DipCOT
As a therapist I have worked with a wide range of people who have faced different emotional issues and mental health problems. I have particular expertise in the field of stress, eating disorders and substance abuse.
I have worked in the mental health field since 1978. I was a therapist at the Henderson and Maudsley Hospitals in London. Later I became the Head Occupational Therapist at Rounday Wing, St James' Hospital Leeds.
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1977. I also have a degree in Psychology and am a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society. I received my doctorate (PhD) in 1998 where I specialised in existential phenomenological psychology and philosophy.
I am currently in the latter stages of training at the Scarborough Psychotherapy Training Institute (SCPTI) to get a further qualification to become registered as an ‘Integrative Psychotherapist’ - a qualification that will be recognised by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). As part of my training, I adhere to the Code of Ethics and Professional Practice of SCPTI. I have regular supervision of my work and I am covered by professional indemnity insurance. (see www.scpti.co.uk)
In addition to my therapy practice, I work as an Academic Consultant. I have been particularly involved in teaching psychology, mental health practice issues and research. I have published widely writing a number of books and academic papers plus I have been involved in writing many course materials for the Open University. (see www.lindafinlay.co.uk)
